Just as the holiday vacation flew by, as did MLK weekend and the ball was rolling again in our classroom. My students were very excited to learn the unit about taking vacations to the beach and countryside. Most enjoyed the beach vocabulary more, and I had a great time sharing my own experiences en la playa, since that environment is the one in which I grew up! Many students have been very opinionated since the recent events of the election, inauguration day, Super Bowl, etc. They seem to be sharing their opinions, at most times unprompted, and perhaps this is an area I will need to monitor since politics can be a tough topic to converse about, especially with younger students. I’m happy that my students are comfortable with me and feel they can express their thoughts, but certainly will need to keep the ‘edgy’ nature of political debates and conversations to the minimum. We’ve moved on from el campo y la playa and students are loving the unit about el cuerpo now!
