<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\nMichael N. Bastedo is the Marvin W. Peterson Collegiate Professor of Education in the Marsal Family School of Education at the University of Michigan. He currently serves as the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs in the School of Education. Michael has faculty affiliations with\u00a0Organizational Studies<\/a>, the\u00a0Education Policy Initiative<\/a>,\u00a0Engineering Education Research<\/a>, and the\u00a0Center for European Studies<\/a>. He holds a Ph.D. in administration and policy analysis from Stanford University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2013, Professor Bastedo received the\u00a0Early Career Award<\/a>\u00a0from the American Educational Research Association (AERA) for distinguished contribution to education research in the first decade after earning his Ph.D. He was the first scholar to win the award in its 30-year history. He has been selected as both\u00a0AERA<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0ASHE fellows<\/a>, recognizing sustained excellence in education research, and in 2023 was elected to the\u00a0National Academy of Education<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Professor Bastedo has been a Fulbright Scholar at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies in the Netherlands. He was an associate of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, a Ford Foundation Global Policy Fellow at the Institute for Higher Education Policy, and a research director for the Institutes on Public University Governance.\u00a0\u00a0He has also served as an expert witness and consultant in federal district court cases in higher education policy and governance, including cases on admissions and rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His scholarly interests are in the organization, stratification, and decision-making of public higher education institutions in the U.S. and abroad. Recently, his focus has been on college admissions, rankings, and enrollment management. His work has been published in the\u00a0American Educational Research Journal, Educational Researcher, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Journal of Higher Education<\/em>, and\u00a0Research in Higher Education<\/em>. His most recent research, funded by the National Science Foundation, has been reported by journalists at National Public Radio, The New York Times, The Economist, The Times of London, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Michael N.
