Chile Trip- 2013
The CSHPE study abroad trip to Santiago, Chile, will take place May 7-16, 2013. During this time, we will spend our time in Santiago and Valparaiso exploring Chilean history, as well as contemporary issues of interest to program participants. We plan to discuss with student activists (past and present) the role of student protests and unions in social change; to interact with government and non-government leaders to discuss national issues such as student access, finance, study abroad, accreditation; to meet with institutional leaders to learn about differences between research and non-research universities with respect to their missions, organizational structures, and instruction and scholarship practices; and to join with Chilean students and faculty in a seminar to share our research and discuss matters of mutual interest in research and practice. This study abroad trip will provide students the option to participate as a non-credit enrichment opportunity, or to earn credit by registering for an independent course with Jan Lawrence.
We would like to express gratitude to the donors of the Fred G. & Edith Carlson Walcott Scholarship Fund, whose generous support has helped to defray the costs for students participating in this trip.
