Our visit to the Center consists of a tour of its exhibits, library and archives led by Liz Thrond (Collections Assistant) and Kristi Thomas (Education Assistant), followed by a discussion with Director Harry Thompson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.marsal.umich.edu\/studentstories\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2014\/07\/Zheng-Western-Studies-DSC_0054.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.marsal.umich.edu\/studentstories\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2014\/07\/Zheng-Western-Studies-DSC_0054.jpg\" alt=\"Zheng Western Studies DSC_0054\" class=\"wp-image-4928\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibits and archives provide us an introspection into the history of the state of South Dakota and the northern plains region.&nbsp; Liz and Kristi answer our group\u2019s questions about the Center\u2019s approach to the display, acquisition and preservation of American Indian artifacts.&nbsp; The visit affords us the opportunity to think critically about and discuss how history is represented and who gets to make such decisions.&nbsp;
