Marsal School WordPress Network
The Marsal Family School of Education’s Communications team manages and maintains a WordPress Multisite (network of websites) for faculty/staff to have a website to host research projects or initiatives they are working on.
- Cost: Free
- The Communications team will create the new website for you with basic structure.
- You (the site owner) are in charge of managing your content (copy and paste text into site pages/templates)
- The Communications team maintains all web software to ensure an up-to-date editing experience.
- Easy to use, once familiar with the platform and how to edit your site (The Communications team offers one-on-one tutorials if needed)
- Several choices for page templates, theming palettes, and fonts to make your site more yours
- No customization available, you are locked into what is available within the network themes, templates, colors, and features.
Google Sites
- Cost: Free
- Custom domain mapping (You must work with UM ITS [email protected] to connect your custom domain)
- You are in charge of adding/editing all your content (copy and paste text into site pages/templates)
- Very easy to use
- Basic templates
- Some customizations available, within the templates (colors and fonts)
Self Managed
- Cost: fees range depending on hosting provider, design/development requirements, and other considerations
- You (the site owner) are responsible for all aspects of your website:
- Securing hosting, setting up the website, design (theme), customization …
- U-M website hosting options
- U-M AFS hosting will be going away at the end of 2026. Please do not plan to use that as a solution
- U-M preferred vendors for website services, if you wish to hire an agency to help
