About

To provide easily accessible and digestible information around mathematics teaching and learning.  To start some conversations about math education and to tickle your brain regarding why we teach math in school and what we value in our children’s mathematical experiences.

A team of six mathematics professionals worked in a district in Southwest Michigan and began collaborating in the Fall of 2022. Bringing a variety of classroom and educational experiences, we were united in the belief that all students were capable of learning mathematics and deserving of high-quality mathematics instruction.

In August of 2024, we attended the Early Math Leadership Institute hosted by the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators (MAISA). There, we saw a presentation from Dr. Maisie Gholson regarding student mathematical identities. The learning from this session remained present in our conversations throughout the year. As our work continued and we wanted to deepen our understanding, we reached out to Dr. Gholson as a resource. Dr. Gholson graciously agreed to meet with us and connected us with Dr. Charles Munter. This website is the beginning of putting our thoughts together for access and use by others interested in similar issues and ideas.
